Eduard Klein is a Research Fellow at the Research Center for East European Studies at the University of Bremen, where he has served since 2018 as editor of Ukraine-Analysen. His academic career includes positions as a Fellow for International Politics at the Center for Liberal Modernity in Berlin (2017/18), policy advisor to Marieluise Beck MP in the German Bundestag (2015-2017), and research assistant at the Research Center for East European Studies.
Dr. Klein's research focuses on corruption in education systems, particularly in Russia and Ukraine, with additional interests in post-Soviet politics, informal institutions, and Ukrainian political development. His work examines anti-corruption policies in higher education, governance challenges, and the impact of geopolitical conflicts on academic institutions. His recent publications analyze Ukraine's EU accession process, wartime challenges for Ukrainian universities, and political developments following the Maidan revolution.
Klein's scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on corruption mechanisms in post-Soviet educational systems, with increasing attention to Ukraine's political trajectory since 2014. His research combines qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including extensive interview data collection. The publications reveal a progression from specialized studies of educational corruption to broader analyses of Ukrainian governance and EU integration challenges.
As editor of Ukraine-Analysen and contributor to various academic and policy platforms including dekoder.org, Klein bridges academic research and policy relevance in Eastern European studies. His work appears in both German and English, reaching audiences across European academic and policymaking circles.
