Edoardo Midena is a full Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Padova, School of Medicine, and Chairman of Ophthalmology at Padova University Hospital. He serves on the scientific board of the G.B. Bietti Foundation and holds elected membership in the Club Jules Gonin, Retina Society, Macula Society, European Academy of Ophthalmology, and EURETINA (where he also serves on the Board). Additionally, he is General Secretary of the Italian Retina Society.
His research centers on chorioretinal diseases, ocular oncology, and diagnostic techniques in ophthalmology, with extensive work on retinal diseases investigated from bench to bedside. He has pioneered studies on treatment modalities including radiation, thermotherapy, photocoagulation, and intraocular drugs affecting retinal/choroidal circulation and function. His development of psychophysical visual function diagnostic techniques, particularly microperimetry for retinal blinding conditions, is integrated with multimodal retinal imaging to advance clinical assessment methodologies.
