Edgar Jerins is an Adjunct Professor at the New York Academy of Art, specializing in Drawing and Figurative Art. Born in 1958 in Lincoln, Nebraska, he graduated in 1980 from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a four-year certificate.

His research and artistic practice focus on monumental charcoal drawings that explore the human condition through narratives of personal and familial crises. Jerins’ work emphasizes unflinching honesty and empathy, addressing themes like relationships, aging, substance abuse, and societal challenges.
Jerins has received multiple grants, including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and the 2014 Venture Fund Grant from the New York Academy of Art. His work is featured in public collections such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Global Center for Latvian Art.
Recent publications include his monograph Life in Charcoal (2023) and an essay in the Rizzoli book The Figure: Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture: Contemporary Perspectives. His art has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows at the Latvian Foreign Art Museum and the New York Academy of Art.
