Eddie Cubillo is a Senior Fellow in Indigenous Programs at The University of Melbourne's Law School and a prominent advocate for Indigenous rights. He has served as Executive Officer at National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (NATSILS), Anti-Discrimination Commissioner of the Northern Territory, and Director of Community Engagement for the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory.
His research and advocacy focus on:
- Aboriginal deaths in custody
- Systemic racism in policing
- Implementation of Royal Commission recommendations
- Ethical media representation of Indigenous issues
The articles he co-authors (2020-2025) reveal patterns in police violence, institutional failures, and media misrepresentation of Indigenous deaths in custody. Key trends include critiques of custodial practices, analysis of institutional racism, and calls for self-determination.
Scientific awards include:
- 2015 National Indigenous Legal Professional of the Year
He currently pursues a PhD at the University of Technology Sydney while working part-time at the University of Melbourne.
