Edda Pupe Blümel

Edda Pupe Blümel is an Academic employee at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. She has been working as a Ph.D. student since August 2016, focusing on the role of Staphylococcal toxins in Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma progression, and is affiliated with the Skin Immunology Research Center.

Her research interests primarily center around Cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL) and the role of Staphylococcus aureus toxins in CTCL pathogenesis. Dr. Blümel has extensive experience in immunological research, with previous work at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and Uppsala University. Her expertise spans T cell biology, microbial immunology, and cancer immunology, with a particular focus on how bacterial toxins influence tumor progression in cutaneous lymphomas. She holds a FELASA certificate in laboratory animal science and is fluent in German (native), English, Swedish, and has professional proficiency in Danish.

Dr. Blümel's publication record demonstrates a strong focus on cutaneous T cell lymphoma, with particular emphasis on Staphylococcus aureus toxins and their immunomodulatory effects. Her research has explored various aspects of CTCL pathogenesis including T cell signaling pathways (JAK/STAT), ion channel function (Kv1.3), microRNA regulation, and the tumor microenvironment. A significant thread throughout her work is the investigation of how bacterial components interact with and influence malignant T cells, with potential implications for novel therapeutic approaches.

Dr. Blümel has participated in numerous international conferences including the EFIS EJI Summer School on advanced immunology in Sardinia (2018) and the International Summer School in Immunology in Croatia (2017), where she presented her research on TOX in Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma and flow cytometry techniques. She completed her Master of Medical Science with a major in Biomedicine at Uppsala University, Sweden, where she also earned her Bachelor's degree in the same field.
