Dr. Ed Malone is a Professor in the Department of English and Technical Communication at Missouri University of Science and Technology. His academic career spans over 25 years, including prior roles as a lecturer at the University of Missouri-Rolla and assistant/associate professor at Missouri Western State College. Dr. Malone holds a B.S.Ed. and M.A. from Missouri State University and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
His research focuses on the history of technical communication, gender dynamics in STEM professions, transmedia storytelling, and sustainability rhetoric. He has extensively published on topics like the professionalization of technical communication, women's roles in early technical writing associations, and grammatical challenges in technical writing. His work has been recognized with multiple CCCC Awards for historical research contributions.
Dr. Malone has been a pioneer in online education, teaching asynchronous courses since 1998 and synchronous Zoom classes since 2011. He co-edited the 2019 special issue of Technical Communication on transmedia culture and has co-authored influential textbooks like Technical Editing. His teaching includes courses such as TCH COM 6450 International Technical Communication.
