Ryan Malone is Associate Professor of Music and Department Chair at Bucknell University, where he has taught since 2014 after over a decade as an organist and choral director in metropolitan New Jersey. He simultaneously serves as Director of Music and Organist at Trinity Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Williamsport, PA.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Music Composition from Duke University
- A.M. in Music Composition from Duke University
- B.A. in Music from the College of the Holy Cross (Liturgical Music and Organ Scholarship recipient)
Professor Malone's research centers on eighteenth-century Moravian music, particularly the choral works of Johann Friedrich Peter (1746–1813), examining intersections of music, identity, and theology within Moravian communities. His scholarship spans Historical Musicology, Music and Identity studies, and Historiography, with deep engagement in eighteenth-century performance practice and choral traditions.
His recent publications analyze Moravian musical practices across centuries, revealing how music shaped community identity during centennial celebrations and theological commemorations. These works demonstrate consistent focus on Moravian cultural heritage through both critical editions and historical analysis.
