Dianne Lehmann Goldman serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at Elmhurst University, specializing in eighteenth-century music from Spain and New Spain with particular focus on Mexico. She is an active member of the Seminario de Música en la Nueva España y el México Independiente at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
Goldman earned her Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 2014 with the dissertation "The Matins Responsory at Mexico City Cathedral, 1575-1815." Her scholarly foundation centers on colonial Mexican liturgical practices and cathedral music traditions.
Her research examines Ignacio Jerusalem's compositional legacy, authorship frameworks in historical contexts, Jewish musical traditions, and cantillation practices. At Elmhurst, she teaches Western music history surveys, histories of the symphony and opera, Latin American music, and courses on Jewish musical culture, bridging historical scholarship with cultural analysis.
Goldman's recent publication of Jerusalem's requiem mass (2022) exemplifies her dedication to recovering colonial Mexican musical heritage. Her work consistently explores intersections between European traditions and New World adaptations in eighteenth-century liturgical contexts, with emphasis on Mexico City Cathedral's musical output.
Through her affiliation with UNAM's Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas, she contributes to international collaborative projects including the catalog of musical works at Mexico City Cathedral, focusing on matins music and advancing understanding of music in New Spain and independent Mexico.
