Ed Brown is a Professor of Global Energy Challenges at Loughborough University and Joint Director of the Loughborough Centre for Sustainable Transitions (STEER). He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh and has been a faculty member since 1991, progressing from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer in Human Geography before attaining his current rank. His professional roles include Co-Chair of the UK Low Carbon Energy for Development Network (LCEDN).
His research focuses on sustainable energy transitions, clean cooking solutions, energy access in low-income countries, and climate policy frameworks. He has led interdisciplinary projects integrating qualitative and quantitative methodologies to address energy system challenges, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Notable contributions include developing energy demand models, analyzing impact financing mechanisms for clean cooking, and advocating for inclusive energy policies that prioritize marginalized communities.
Recent publications emphasize energy transition modeling, clean cooking technologies, and low-carbon energy democracy. His work bridges academic research with policy impact, aiming to inform global development agendas like SDG7 and the Paris Agreement.
