Yesmeen Khalifa is a Research Associate in the MECS programme at Loughborough University (UK) since 2022. Previously, she served as a Research Associate at Keele University’s Institute for Sustainable Futures (2021–2022), working on the 'Public Residential Street Kerb Charging System' project funded by OZEV. Her PhD (2016–2021, Keele University) focused on urban metabolism and resource management in developing countries, culminating in a thesis exploring challenges for urban sustainability in such contexts. She holds an AFHEA (2018), MSc in Environmental Engineering (2006, Ain Shams University), and BSc in Architecture (1999, Helwan University).
Her research interests center on sustainable urban systems, clean cooking energy transitions, gender equity frameworks in energy access, and the intersection of school food systems with climate resilience. She has contributed to policy analyses for MECS programs and developed holistic frameworks for energy infrastructure in Global South cities like Cairo.
Her recent work emphasizes impact financing mechanisms for clean cooking adoption, electric cooking solutions in schools, and equitable resource management strategies. She has published widely on urban sustainability, energy policy, and development challenges in low-income regions. Her research integrates multidisciplinary approaches to address systemic barriers in achieving sustainable development goals.
