Ed Anderson is a Professor of Organic Chemistry and Head of Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford's Department of Chemistry, affiliated with Jesus College. His research focuses on synthetic methodology development and its application in target-oriented synthesis, including natural product synthesis (e.g., Schisandra triterpenoids, macrocyclic lactones), antiparasitic compounds against Chagas disease and leishmaniases, and bioisosteres like bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes (BCPs). He explores heteroatom-substituted alkynes, mechanistic studies of organosilicon reactions, and DNA chemistry using EPR spectroscopy. Collaborations include work with São Paulo and Oxford groups on antiparasitics, the Duarte group on strained ring theory, and the Brown and Lovett groups on spin-labelled nucleic acids.
Research themes include catalysis, chemistry-biology/medicine interfaces, reaction mechanisms, synthesis, and computational modeling. No specific awards or grants are detailed, but his work addresses global health challenges and industrial applications of novel chemical structures.
