Ecem Basak is an Assistant Professor in the Paul H. Chook Department of Information Systems and Statistics at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business. Her research focuses on the societal, economic, and environmental impacts of the sharing economy, online social networks, and Web3 technologies, with methodological expertise in econometrics, causal inference, and data analytics.

Her work spans interdisciplinary domains including transportation policy, environmental sustainability, and political decision-making, leveraging large-scale observational studies to uncover causal relationships in digital platform ecosystems. She has published in top journals like MIS Quarterly, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and PLoS ONE, alongside conferences such as ICIS and HICSS.
Notable awards include the 2025 Brightspace Innovation Award, 2024 Zicklin Teaching Excellence Award, and the 2016 CBA Doctoral Fellowship. She serves as a reviewer for journals and conferences including MIS Quarterly and the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences.
