Eberhard Wolff is an Adjunct Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the University of Basel and permanent lecturer at its Department of Cultural Studies and European Ethnology. With a background in empirical cultural studies (folklore) and political science from Tübingen, he holds a dissertation on traditional medicinal culture during smallpox vaccination introduction (around 1800) and completed habilitation in 2009 with a thesis on medicine's role in German Jewish cultural transformation (1750–1850).

His research focuses on cultural anthropology of the body and health, technologies of the self, and Jewish identity studies. Recent publications explore self-assertion in science, medical humor, and Davos high-altitude therapy as elite practice.
