Eberhard Fischer

Prof. Dr. Eberhard Fischer is a Professor of Botany at the University of Koblenz-Landau's Department of Biology (Department 3: Mathematics/Natural Sciences). He serves as Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching since 2018, Managing Director of the Biology Department, and Head of the AG Botany and Biodiversity Research group. His administrative roles include Scientific Director of the Rwanda Center and leadership in multiple examination boards.

• Education: PhD (1990) and Habilitation (1995) from University of Bonn
• Research focuses on rainforest biodiversity, plant systematics, herbarium collections, and didactics of biology
• Key projects: Rwanda flora studies, Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park research, evolutionary water repellency mechanisms

Recent breakthroughs include discovering a new red algae genus and rewriting the timeline of plant superhydrophobicity evolution. Active in policy engagement through meetings with government officials.

Labs/Teams: Leads the AG Botany and Biodiversity Research group with 4 core members and collaborates across departments in integrated natural sciences.
