His research focuses on community health interventions, diabetes prevention, and health systems improvement with particular emphasis on underserved populations. Current active grants include the National Center for Engagement in Diabetes Research (funded by NIDDK through 2026) and Bronx Neighborhood Redevelopment and CVD studies (funded by NHLBI through 2025).
Dr. Chambers' research interests center on community health disparities, diabetes prevention strategies, and primary medical care systems. His work examines how neighborhood redevelopment affects cardiovascular health in mid-life and older adults, investigates social determinants of health in diverse populations, and develops culturally appropriate diabetes prevention programs. Recent studies utilize innovative methods including Google Street View assessments of built environments and analysis of social networks in Latino communities.
His publication record demonstrates significant contributions to understanding diabetes awareness in Hispanic populations, neighborhood environmental factors affecting health outcomes, and social determinants influencing cardiotoxicity in cancer treatment. Current research trends show increasing focus on geospatial analysis of health disparities and implementation of national diabetes prevention programs in minority communities.
As Principal Investigator on multiple NIH-funded projects totaling 16 grants (14 completed, 2 active), Dr. Chambers leads research teams investigating health equity issues. Current projects include the National Center for Engagement in Diabetes Research ($2.3M, 2023-2026), Bronx Neighborhood Redevelopment and CVD studies ($1.8M, 2023-2025), and the Power-Up Study Administrative Supplement to Promote Diversity ($450K, 2023-2024). His collaborative network spans multiple institutions including Northwestern University, University of Miami, and University of Washington.
Dr. Chambers directs research teams focused on community-engaged health disparities research, particularly examining how neighborhood redevelopment affects cardiovascular health outcomes in Bronx communities. His work integrates systems dynamics modeling with community-based participatory research methods to address diabetes prevention and cardiovascular health in diverse urban populations.
