ERCAN BARAN is a Lecturer in the Department of Eastern Languages and Literatures at Bingöl University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD from Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (2021) and has extensive teaching experience in Arabic language and literature. His academic career includes roles as a coordinator for Syrian refugee education programs under the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MEB) from 2015–2022, focusing on curriculum development and integration projects. He has authored multiple books on modern Arabic literature, including Üç Modern Mısır Romanında Cemal Abdunnasır Dönemi (2022) and Necip Mahfuz'un Sembolik Romanlarında Din Anlayışı (2022).
His research interests span Arabic literary history, translation strategies, and socio-political themes in contemporary Arab fiction. He has supervised numerous MA/PhD theses on topics like Abdulazîz el-Mekâlih's poetry and Leïla Slimani's narratives. His recent publications include analyses of Necip Mahfuz's works and comparative studies on Arabic-to-Turkish translations. BARAN has presented at international conferences such as the Ankara Social Sciences Congress and the İzmir Multidisciplinary Studies Conference, and has reviewed manuscripts for journals like Nüsha and Rumelide.
He is a recipient of awards from the Turkish Ministry of National Education for his pandemic-era educational efforts (2020–2022). His language proficiencies include Arabic (native), Syrian dialect, Russian (B2), Farsi, Kurdish, Hebrew, and Ottoman Turkish. He currently serves as Chair of the Arabic Language and Rhetoric Department at Bingöl University.
