Dylan C. Burns is a Research Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Vermont. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont (2011, 2006, 2002). His research focuses on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for subsurface detection, electromechanical device design, and RF signal processing. Burns founded dbgear LLC in 2016 and holds patents for innovations in GPR systems and vibrating magnet antennas.
He teaches courses including Statics (CEE 1100), Dynamics (ME 1120), Mechanics of Solids (ME 1140), and System Dynamics (ME 2120). His technical expertise spans prototype development, MATLAB/SolidWorks proficiency, and hands-on laboratory testing. Burns' work emphasizes real-time data integration, with applications in civil infrastructure monitoring and augmented reality visualization systems.
His research has produced over 20 peer-reviewed publications since 2017, focusing on advanced radar technologies, sensor fusion, and subsurface imaging. He collaborates on projects involving phased array systems, orbital angular momentum (OAM) radar, and magnetic sensing innovations for urban environments.
