Dwight McDonald serves as a Clinical Instructor and Director of Community Engagement at Texas Tech University School of Law. With nearly three decades of legal experience since his 1993 graduation from Texas Tech University School of Law, he brings substantial practical expertise to his academic role.
His educational background includes:
- B.S. from Lubbock Christian University (1988)
- J.D. from Texas Tech University (1993)
McDonald specializes in Criminal Law defense, having spent 22 years in private practice representing clients in criminal and family matters before transitioning to legal education in January 2015. His teaching portfolio includes the Criminal Defense Clinic, Law Office Management, Introduction to the Study of Law, and the Regional Externship class. Recognized for innovative teaching methods, he received the Texas Tech Alumni Association New Faculty Award in 2023.
As an active legal professional, McDonald currently serves on the Board of Directors for the State Bar of Texas. His leadership roles include Chair of the Criminal Justice Section of the State Bar of Texas (2021) and President of the Lubbock County Bar Association (2022-2023), following six years on the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Board of Directors (2018-2023).
