Duxin Sun is the Associate Dean for Research and Charles Walgreen Jr. Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. He also holds a Professor appointment in Pharmaceutical Sciences and joint affiliations with the Chemical Biology program, Interdisciplinary Medicinal Chemistry program, and Comprehensive Cancer Center.
- Education: BS in Pharmacy, MS in Pharmacology, PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with visiting scientist training in Molecular Biology
Research Interests span four major areas:
- Drug Development: Pioneering the STAR system (Structure-Tissue/Cell Selectivity-Activity Relationship) to address the 90% failure rate in clinical trials.
- Cancer Nanomedicine: Developing albumin-based nanomedicines to enhance immuno-oncology drugs targeting lymphatic immune cells and tumors.
- Cancer Vaccines: Innovating SARS-CoV-2 B epitope-guided neoantigen vaccines that activate CD4/CD8 T cells through B cell antigen presentation.
- Gastrointestinal Pharmacology: Investigating regional differences in microbiome, bile salts, and drug release across the GI tract.
Article Trends reflect his work in nanoparticle drug delivery, machine learning applications, STING/PI3Kγ dual targeting, and GI tract-specific pharmacokinetics. Notably, his lab explores PROTAC degraders for targets like MDM2, IKZF2, and STAT3.
Scientific Recognition
- Elected Fellow of AAAS and AAPS
- Served on FDA Advisory Committee and NIH study sections
Mentorship includes guiding 40 PhD students and 75 postdoctoral fellows through his Sun Laboratory and Pharmacokinetics Core. The lab team comprises key members like Bo Wen (Research Scientist) and Fang Ke (Research Investigator).
