Dr. Duncan Wright is an Associate Professor at The Australian National University's School of Archaeology & Anthropology, specializing in Indigenous archaeology, ritual practices, and cultural heritage. His research emphasizes collaboration with First Nations communities to explore the intersection of oral histories, archaeology, and modern societal benefits. Key projects include Torres Strait cultural pathway studies, post-bushfire heritage conservation in the Blue Mountains, and investigations into early human migration in Europe's Moravian Karst.
Educated at Lampeter University (BA), ANU (MA), and Monash University (PhD), Wright has held positions at Griffith and Monash Universities. His work spans diverse regions: Western Australia, Arnhem Land, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Torres Strait, and the Czech Republic. He supervises research students and leads projects funded by Australia's ARC (Australian Research Council).
Wright's research interests include ritual archaeology, Torres Strait deep history, and the preservation of threatened heritage sites. His teaching integrates street art with rock art analysis, fostering student engagement through fieldwork. He is a member of the Society of Antiquaries, London.
