Duncan Wheeler is a Leverhulme Research Fellow in Spanish at the University of Leeds and serves on the executive committee of the Centre for World Cinemas. He transitioned to a lectureship in Spanish upon completing his fellowship in September 2012.
His research spans Film Studies, Spanish Literature, Cultural Studies, Spanish History, Arts Institutions, and Golden Age Drama. He has authored over fifteen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with his first monograph Golden Age Drama in Contemporary Spain: The Comedia on Page, Stage and Screen published by the University of Wales Press and University of Chicago Press. His second monograph examines arts and cultural institutions during Spain's transition to democracy, completed in 2013.

As Reviews Editor of New Cinemas, he shapes scholarly discourse in film studies. His research is funded by the Leverhulme Trust fellowship and anchored in the Centre for World Cinemas, where he contributes to strategic initiatives and interdisciplinary collaborations in global cinema studies.
