Duncan Mascarenhas is an Associate Professor of Sport & Exercise Psychology and Coaching at Edinburgh Napier University's School of Applied Sciences. A Chartered Psychologist with over 20 years' experience in elite sports officiating, he combines psychological expertise with technical skills from his former career as a video producer to create innovative training resources for sports officials.

- Key collaborations: RFU, SRU, NZ Rugby, FA Wales, Netball NZ
His work with referees and umpires spans multiple sports including rugby, netball, cricket and hockey. Current research explores:
- Technological applications in officiating training
- Psychological support systems for officials
- Gender diversity in officiating roles
- Perceptual-cognitive skill development
Recent publications cover mental health in sports officials (2024), immersive video training tools (2023), and communication dynamics between officials and athletes (2018). His scientific awards include:

As a research supervisor, he has guided doctoral research on topics including:
- Self-defence training skills
- Communication development in officiating
He has served as external examiner for three PhD programs, including KU Leuven University's research on expert perception in football referees.
