Dr. Ali Pearson is a Teaching Fellow in Applied Sport Science and Academic Cohort Lead for Years 3 and 4 at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh. He holds a PhD from the University of Portsmouth and has over a decade of experience as an accredited Performance Analyst across multiple sports. His research focuses on performance analysis frameworks, skill acquisition, and technology’s role in sport officiating development. Pearson has worked with professional and developmental teams in football, rugby, netball, and cricket, and brings expertise in pastoral student support from his role as Deputy Warden at the University of St Andrews.

His research interests include optimizing feedback mechanisms in performance analysis, the impact of technology on sport officials’ learning, and how practice design enhances performance analysis efficacy. Current projects include an international comparative study on netball umpire development and a rugby referee-parent interaction study. Pearson supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and collaborates with Edinburgh Rugby for postgraduate placements.
