Prof Duncan Cameron holds the Chair in Environmental Sustainability at the University of Manchester's Earth and Environmental Sciences department. He earned a PhD in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Aberdeen (2004) and a BSc in Animal and Plant Biology from the University of Sheffield (2001). His research focuses on environmental microbiology, sustainable agriculture, and soil microbe interactions to enhance crop nutrition and resilience. He co-leads the Healthy Soil, Healthy Food, Healthy People consortium under UKRI’s Transforming UK Food Systems programme. Notable projects include sustainable fish farming in Australia, UNHCR hydroponic initiatives in Jordan (earning the 2020 UKRI Green Gown Award), and interdisciplinary collaborations with historians and artists to address food security. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Tasmania's Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies. A vocal advocate for LGBTQI+ and disabled representation in STEM, he openly shares his experience with Cerebellar Ataxia and uses art to communicate science. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing environmental sustainability and food security.
