Duncan Brown is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s Security Studies Program and a Principal Professional Staff Member at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL). He holds expertise in national security strategy, defense technology, and STEM education advocacy.
Previously, he served in key U.S. Department of Defense roles including Science Advisor to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Science Advisor to the Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet, and Technical Director for Submarine Technology. He managed the Hydrodynamics Branch at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) and led strategic assessments at JHU/APL.
His research interests focus on national security strategy, future military environments, weapon systems analysis, and promoting STEM education through robotics competitions. He volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America and founded STEMaction, a nonprofit advancing STEM education.
