Drew Holladay

Drew Holladay is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where he has been a faculty member since 2017. He is affiliated with the Department of English within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, maintaining his office in the Performing Arts and Humanities Building (PAHB) room 403.

His research focuses at the intersection of:

• Rhetoric of Health and Medicine
• Disability Studies, particularly regarding mental health
• Digital Humanities approaches to discourse analysis
• Corpus linguistics applications in studying medical terminology

Dr. Holladay examines how writing about medicine, the brain, and mental health functions across various contexts, investigating how individuals advocate for appropriate medical support and improved public understanding of mental disabilities. His work critically analyzes the impact of biomedical ideology on mental health discourses across psychiatric research, legal systems, educational institutions, and government policies.

His scholarly contributions have been published in prominent journals including Technical Communication Quarterly and JAC: A Journal of Rhetoric, Culture, and Politics. His publications reveal consistent engagement with mental health discourse, disability representation, and rhetorical strategies in both digital and traditional spaces.
