Drew Gossen

Drew Gossen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Leadership and Teacher Education at the University of South Alabama, within the College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS). He holds a PhD from Oklahoma State University and has prior K-12 teaching experience in science and mathematics, along with coaching roles. His research focuses on two primary areas: (1) student learning experiences and STEM beliefs, particularly in informal environments like STEM camps and museums, and (2) STEM teacher preparation, emphasizing preservice teachers' development of content knowledge and pedagogical skills. He advocates for inquiry-based learning in his courses, including EDU 337 (Teaching Science) and EEC 537 (Teaching Science at the graduate level).

Dr. Gossen's outreach efforts include fostering collaborations between local schools, universities, and industry to strengthen STEM pipelines. He is engaged in projects that connect K-12 teachers with university resources and supports initiatives to improve engineering career awareness among elementary students. His teaching philosophy emphasizes preparing educators to inspire lifelong learning and effective STEM instruction.

He currently resides in Daphne, Alabama, and is actively involved in community activities such as hiking and beach outings with his family.
