Research Interests: Ayers focuses on digital visual effects, posthuman theory, and the materiality of cinematic representation. His work interrogates how digital technologies reshape human identity and cultural narratives, particularly through action cinema and special effects. He examines 'nonhuman' elements in media, such as synthetic blood, digital compositing, and performance capture, to explore evolving notions of embodiment and materiality.
Publications Trends: His articles (2007–2021) analyze digital media’s impact on cinematic representation, with recurring themes of posthumanism, technological embodiment, and hybrid identities. Recent work critiques digital facial replacement and action star corporeality in the digital age.
