Drake Hills is a Lecturer at San Diego State University (SDSU), affiliated with the School of Journalism and Media Studies within the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. He holds an M.S. from Northwestern University and a B.A. from the University of Oregon. His work focuses on sports journalism and the intersection of sports with cultural, racial, and societal issues, including coverage of MLS, NFL, MLB, and high school sports. He has reported globally, with notable stories on topics like the impact of Major League Soccer’s financial partnerships with Black-owned institutions.

His research and reporting frequently explore how sports influence community development, particularly through initiatives like the MLS’s $25 million loan syndicate supporting Black neighborhoods in Birmingham, Alabama.
