Douglas R. Ayres is an Assistant Professor of Practice and MAcc Coordinator at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting (with a finance minor) from the University of Tennessee and a B.S. in Accounting (Summa Cum Laude) from Ball State University. Prior to academia, he spent 11 years at Somerset CPAs, advancing to Senior Manager in business valuation and litigation support, including roles as an expert witness. His research focuses on financial accounting, auditing, and corporate governance, with over a dozen peer-reviewed publications. He has received multiple accolades, including the STARS Award (2020), Butler University’s Outstanding Research honor, and teaching awards from Ball State and Butler Universities. His teaching emphasizes financial accounting, auditing, and business valuation. Ayres serves on academic committees, reviews for top journals, and mentors students through honors programs. His work bridges practical accounting expertise with academic rigor, addressing topics like fair value disclosures, analyst forecasts, and audit challenges in goodwill impairments.
