Roy Schmardebeck is an Associate Professor and Haslam Family Faculty Research Fellow at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he also serves as a Neel Corporate Governance Center affiliate. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting) from the University of Arkansas and degrees from Brigham Young University. Prior to academia, he worked at Ernst & Young as a staff auditor. He is a licensed CPA in Utah.

Research Interests: Corporate governance, financial reporting quality, auditing, and regulatory oversight. His work explores managerial discretion’s impact on financial disclosures and governance mechanisms.
Research Trends: Recent articles focus on M&A deal pricing, internal controls, SEC comment letters, and audit committee dynamics. His work bridges theoretical accounting frameworks with practical regulatory and governance challenges.
