Professor Douglas Parker is a leading Meteorologist at the University of Leeds, jointly appointed in the School of Earth and Environment and School of Mathematics. He holds an adjunct position at NORCE-Climate in Bergen. His research focuses on weather system dynamics, climate change impacts, and improving forecasting in Africa and tropical regions. Key projects include the GCRF African SWIFT initiative and the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA).
He has led field campaigns in Africa, India, and the UK, and contributed to the Queen’s Anniversary Prize (2021). Notable awards include the Royal Meteorological Society Vaisala Award (2014) and the Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award (2013–2018).
Parker’s work bridges academia and practical applications, including a textbook on West African meteorology and collaborations with the Met Office and World Meteorological Organization. His current projects address soil moisture-precipitation feedbacks and AI-driven weather prediction in Africa.
