Douglas O. Edwards is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Utica University's School of Arts & Sciences. His work primarily focuses on metaphysics, philosophy of language, and epistemology, with a unifying emphasis on the nature of truth. He serves as Associate Editor of Analysis, Director of Utica's Applied Ethics Institute, and member of the Virtual International Consortium of Truth Research (VICTR).
- PhD in Philosophy, University of St Andrews
- Prior positions at University College Dublin, University of Aberdeen, and Hamilton College
Edwards' research spans truth pluralism, alethic disjunctivism, and ethical naturalism, with recent interdisciplinary work connecting philosophy to pro wrestling. His publications address the normativity of truth, naturalness in representational theories, and metaphysical implications of truth formulations.
Key scientific awards include the American Philosophical Association's 2019 Sanders Book Prize for The Metaphysics of Truth. While his article output focuses on truth as a relational/extrinsic property, ontological pluralism, and mixed conjunctions in pluralist theories, his books like Properties and Philosophy Smackdown (2020) demonstrate both technical rigor and cultural engagement.
Edwards collaborates internationally and maintains active roles in philosophical editorial boards. His work continues to explore detachment as a philosophical methodology in his upcoming book.
