Douglas J. King serves as a Professor in the English Department at Gannon University, where he has taught since 2001 with active involvement in the Fine Arts Program. His diverse course offerings span Drama of Shakespeare, Film Studies, Native American Literature, and Modern Drama, while he also advises Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society) and leads student cultural trips internationally.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. in English from Duquesne University (2002; dissertation: Shakespeare as Adapted for Children), an M.A. in Education from The George Washington University (1994), and a B.A. in English from SUNY Buffalo (1982).
King's research centers on Shakespearean adaptations for children, performance studies, and literary humor, with significant publications including Shakespeare's World: The Tragedies (2018) and William Shakespeare: Facts and Fictions (2020). His scholarly scope extends to film acting techniques and literature-to-song adaptations, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement between literary analysis and performance arts.
As an educator, he has designed over a dozen international student expeditions to Greece, Italy, France, Spain, England, Wales, and the Navajo Nation. Beyond academia, he performs music with his band Father Sage (pre-pandemic), sings in his church choir, and enjoys kayaking and hiking with his dog Theo.
