Dr. Douglas Flamming is a Professor in the School of History and Sociology at Georgia Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and the Development Studies Program. He specializes in U.S. social and political history since the Civil War, with research interests spanning labor history, civil rights, and regional studies. His current projects include a study of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and research on the Gulf Coast shrimping industry.
He has authored three major works: Creating the Modern South (1992), Bound for Freedom (2005), and African Americans in the West (2009). Flamming teaches courses on New South history, the Industrial Revolution, Vietnam War history, and U.S. history surveys.
