Professor Douglas Ezzy is a sociologist specializing in contemporary religion, nonreligion, and the sociology of health and nature at the University of Tasmania's School of Social Sciences. He holds a PhD from La Trobe University and has led significant projects funded by the Australian Research Council, including studies on religious freedom and LGBTQ+ rights in faith-based organizations. His research also explores religious diversity, Pagan practices, and the intersection of spirituality with modern issues like environmentalism and healthcare.
Research Interests: Ezzy’s work focuses on religious diversity, LGBTQ+ inclusion in religious contexts, and the sociological implications of non-religious identities. His publications include Sex, Death and Witchcraft (2014), Teenage Witches (2007), and co-authored works on church reinvention and qualitative research methods.
Professional Roles: He served as Editor of the Journal for the Academic Study of Religion (2013–2019) and President of the Australian Association for the Study of Religion (2015–2016).
