Douglas Collins

Dr. Douglas Collins is a Professor and Extension Faculty at Washington State University (WSU), affiliated with the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences and the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources. His work focuses on soil quality, organic vegetable production, and sustainable farming practices. Collins holds a Ph.D. in Soil Science (WSU), an M.S. in Plant Pathology (Montana State University), and a B.A. in Biology (Colorado College).

His research emphasizes organic farming systems, reduced tillage strategies, and soil fertility management. He has led projects funded by grants such as SARE and the WA Department of Ecology, totaling over $500,000. Collins teaches courses on ecological soil management and has collaborated with institutions like the University of Washington and Edmonds Community College.

Collins has advised numerous graduate and undergraduate students, contributing to studies on cover crops, biochar, and greenhouse gas emissions. He serves on the WA State Organic Advisory Board and actively engages in workshops and conferences, promoting soil health and sustainable agriculture practices.
