Douglas A. Sweeney is the Dean and Professor of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School, Samford University. He leads the institution with a God-centered, collaborative approach to theological education and equipping students for Gospel ministry.
- Education: PhD and MA from Vanderbilt University, BA from Wheaton College
Research interests include Historical Theology, Global Evangelical Movements, and Jonathan Edwards Studies. He has authored or edited over 20 books, including The Substance of Our Faith (2023) and The Oxford Handbook of Jonathan Edwards (2021). His works explore intersections of Christian doctrine, early modern Protestantism, and global evangelical history.
Sweeney actively participates in academic leadership, serving on editorial boards for Didaktikos and The Works of Andrew Fuller, while directing the Center for Catholic and Evangelical Theology. He is an Honorary President of the Jonathan Edwards Conference in Korea and a member of the National Association of Evangelicals Board of Directors.
Personal details: Married to Wilma, with one adult son and daughter-in-law. He emphasizes incarnational education and has collaborated with students Samuel Hagos and Colby Brandt on ongoing projects.
