Doug Neill serves as an adjunct instructor of low brass and electric bass at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM), adjunct instructor of electric bass, tuba, and euphonium at Concordia College, and adjunct instructor of bass at North Dakota State University (NDSU). Previously, he retired from Moorhead Public Schools in Spring 2020 after 18 years as an Orchestra Instructor, with prior teaching roles in Detroit Lakes and Lake Park/Audubon public schools.
He earned a Bachelor's in Music Education from North Dakota State University, studying tuba under Orville Eidem, and a Master's in Music Education from Minnesota State University Moorhead. His training included summers at Boston University Tanglewood Institute with the Empire Brass and Samuel Pilafian.
Neill's expertise spans brass and bass performance across classical, jazz, and rock genres, with pedagogical focus on low brass instruments and electric bass. His professional practice integrates performance techniques with ensemble instruction, emphasizing practical musicianship in diverse musical contexts.
As Principal Tubist of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony since 1981, he maintains an active performance career while contributing to regional music education. He also performs bass in jazz and rock ensembles including Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome, demonstrating cross-genre versatility.
