Dorrie Main is a Professor of Bioinformatics at Washington State University (WSU), affiliated with the Department of Horticulture within the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). She holds a Ph.D. in Bioscience and Biotechnology from Strathclyde University, alongside an M.Sc. in Information Management and a B.Sc. in Science and Management Studies from Scottish institutions. Prior to her current role, she served as an Assistant Professor and Director of Bioinformatics at Clemson University's Genomic Institute.
Her research focuses on plant bioinformatics, including genome databases, comparative genomics of rosaceous crops, and the development of tools like the Tripal framework. She leads the MainLab, which collaborates on projects such as RosBREED2 and contributes to initiatives like the AgBioData Consortium. Key contributions include the Tripal Mainlab Chado Loader (MCL) and genomic resources for crops like cotton and citrus.
MainLab's activities emphasize interoperability in biological databases and translational research. Presentations at events like the Plant and Animal Genome Conference (PAG 2018) highlight her work in genomic data management and breeding informatics. She actively participates in workshops and contributes to open-source bioinformatics platforms.
