Dorothy Price

Professor Dorothy Price FBA is an internationally recognized scholar in modern and contemporary art, critical race art history, and decolonial studies. She currently serves as Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art and will assume the roles of Executive Dean and Deputy Director from August 2025. Previously, she was a founder and inaugural Director of the Centre for Black Humanities at the University of Bristol, and Professorial research lead for the Transnational Modernisms Research Cluster.

Her academic work intersects decoloniality, gender studies, psychoanalysis, and Black studies. Price has held significant editorial roles, including Editor of Art History (2018–2023), where she spearheaded transformative initiatives like the ‘Decolonizing Art History’ questionnaire and special issues on Weimar art, global British art, and Black British modernism. Her curatorial projects include landmark exhibitions such as Entangled Pasts (2024), which recontextualized colonial histories through art, and Claudette Johnson: Presence (2023), a Turner Prize-nominated exhibition.
