Tom Young is a Lecturer in Nineteenth-Century Art Histories at The Courtauld Institute of Art since 2023, with prior roles as a Leverhulme Fellow at the University of Warwick, project curator for the British Museum's “Tantra: Enlightenment to Revolution” exhibition, curator at Lakeland Arts, and lecturer at the University of Warsaw. He has held fellowships at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence, the Huntington Library, and the Yale Center for British Art.
His research centers on nineteenth-century art history with emphases on colonial contexts, lithographic print culture, and transnational artistic exchanges. His acclaimed first book examines British art's role in the East India Company's transition from corporate entity to colonial administration (1813–1858), while his current book project investigates lithography's global impact on identity formation and political movements from 1796–1914. Additional research explores nineteenth-century Polish art and artistic dimensions of free ports/special economic zones.
