Dr. Dorothy Hannis is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing & Midwifery at the School of Health and Life Sciences, Teesside University. Her research focuses on neonatal care, preterm birth outcomes, occupational justice, and the impact of pandemics on families. She has led or co-led seven active research projects since 2020, including studies on infection prevention for preterm infants, parental experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, and occupational justice frameworks for neonatal families.
Her work employs mixed methods, including systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Notable projects include an exploration of real-time qualitative research challenges during the pandemic and a longitudinal study on mothers' experiences following preterm labor. Dr. Hannis has produced six peer-reviewed articles and one other contribution since 2022, addressing topics ranging from adolescent sexual health to neonatal nursing practices.
