Dominique Mylod is a Lecturer in Midwifery at Bournemouth University, specializing in maternal health and pain management during labor. Her research challenges outdated perceptions of neurophysiology in childbirth and focuses on improving maternity care outcomes through midwifery-led innovation.

Research Interests: Dominique is renowned for her work on the use of birth balls in latent labor to reduce pain perception. Her studies explore sustainable, cost-effective strategies for early labor management, informed by phenomenological insights into midwives' barriers to antenatal education. She has also investigated the role of social media in breastfeeding practices and the impact of digital communication on maternal health during pandemics.
Grants & Awards:
- Iolanthe Midwifery Trust Midwives' Award (2017): Funded the BALL trial (Birth Assisted Latent Labour) to purchase 28 birth balls, with additional support from the Federation of the Isle of Wight Women's Institutes and Birthease company.
Collaborations: Dominique collaborates with the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) as an External Reviewer and works closely with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Bournemouth University. She co-founded Breastfeeding Babes Bursledon and is a member of the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers and the Association of Radical Midwives.
