Dorothee Dormann is a Professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) and serves as Adjunct Director at the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) in Mainz, Germany. She is also a Faculty Member at the Max Planck Graduate Center and a Principal Investigator in the Excellence Cluster EXC 2145. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly ALS and FTD, with an emphasis on RNA-binding protein aggregation, nucleocytoplasmic transport defects, and post-translational modifications (PTMs).
- Education: PhD in Biochemistry (Rockefeller University, 2003-2007), Diploma in Biochemistry (University of Tübingen, 1996-2002)
- Key research themes: RBP mislocalization, phase separation, nuclear transport, PTMs, stress granules
Her work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Alzheimer Research Award (2021), Paul Ehrlich und Ludwig Darmstädter Award (2019), and Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Award (2014). She leads the Dormann Lab, which uses in vitro reconstitution, cellular models, and proteomics to investigate neurodegeneration, collaborating with animal model and human post-mortem brain researchers.
