Dorothea Anagnostopoulos

Dorothea Anagnostopoulos is an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the Neag School of Education, University of Connecticut. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Chicago, an M.A.T. in English from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in English from Stanford University.

Her research focuses on teaching quality, teacher education, and the organizational aspects of teachers’ work. Notable areas include the impact of accountability policies on urban schools, teacher preparation program redesign, and the development of ambitious instructional practices. She has led initiatives like the practice-based teacher education redesign at UConn and co-edited influential works such as The Corona Chronicles and The Infrastructure of Accountability.

Dr. Anagnostopoulos has been funded by NSF, Spencer Foundation, and state agencies for projects examining teacher education’s role in preparing educators for diverse contexts. She served as AERA Division K’s Vice President, fostering anti-racist and pandemic-responsive research through seed grants.

Her professional service includes roles on AERA’s Executive Board, editorial boards for Review of Educational Research and Research in the Teaching of English, and leadership in the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Prior to academia, she taught secondary English in urban and rural schools.
