Doron Kalir

Doron Kalir is a Senior Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Appellate Practice Clinic at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University. He specializes in representing underprivileged clients in state, federal, and immigration courts, including landmark cases like a transgender-rights case cited by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. His scholarship focuses on Supreme Court practice, statutory interpretation, federal courts, LGBTQ rights, and Jewish Law.

• LL.B. (cum laude) and LL.M. (summa cum laude) from Hebrew University Law School, Israel.
• LL.M. from Columbia Law School as a Kent Scholar.

His teaching areas include Appellate Practice, Contracts, and Legal Ethics. He has been featured in major media outlets like the New York Times and Newsweek, and lectures widely on legal and cultural topics. Beyond academia, he volunteers as a lecturer at B’nai Jeshurun Congregation and serves on national and local legal boards. He is also part of the Academic Engagement Network’s Speakers’ Bureau.

Prof. Kalir’s career spans military service in Israel, Supreme Court advocacy there, private practice at Skadden, Arps in New York, and academic roles at Columbia Law School before joining Cleveland State.
