Doris E. Buss is a Professor in the Department of Law and Legal Studies at Carleton University. Her work bridges gender studies, international law, and resource governance, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. - Education: B.A. (Carleton), LL.B. (Dalhousie), LL.M. (British Columbia)
Her research explores the intersections of gender, violence, and legal epistemology. Key projects include a multi-year study on gender and artisanal mining in Kenya, Sierra Leone, and Mozambique, and a critical analysis of international war crimes tribunals, particularly the Rwanda Tribunal, examining how legal systems construct identity and historical narratives.
Recent publications highlight gendered socio-economic disparities in mining communities, legal responses to campus sexual violence, and critiques of inclusionary policies in resource governance. She supervises graduate students in areas such as queer diplomacy, conflict resolution, and feminist legal analysis, contributing to interdisciplinary dialogues on gender and global justice.
