Professor Donna Patrick specializes in linguistic anthropology at Carleton University's Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Her research focuses on Indigenous languages and peoples in the Arctic and Canada, particularly examining language rights, language revitalization, and critical literacies through Participatory Action Research (PAR). Patrick has led SSHRC-funded projects like 'Mobilizing Nipivut' on Inuit radio communications and collaborated on CIHR projects studying Inuit health in southern Quebec. She teaches courses on Language, Culture and Power; Research Design; and Indigeneity in Canada and the Arctic.
Patrick serves as Co-Editor of the Canadian Modern Language Review and previously served as President of the Canadian Anthropology Society. Her publications explore language politics, Indigenous urbanization, and multilingualism.
