Donna Nagy is the C. Ben Dutton Professor of Business Law at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where she also serves as Executive Associate Dean. She joined the law school faculty in 2006 and has served as executive associate dean for much of the last decade, including from 2013-2019 and 2020-21. Prior to joining Indiana University, Professor Nagy taught at the University of Cincinnati College of Law starting in 1994, where she served as Interim Dean from 2004-05 and as Associate Dean for Faculty Development from 2002-04.
Professor Nagy's research and teaching focuses on corporate law, securities law, securities regulation, and securities litigation. Her scholarship includes two co-authored books on insider trading and securities litigation, as well as numerous law review articles on government disclosure practices, insider trading, and financial conflicts of interest. She is particularly known for her expertise in insider trading law and has written extensively on topics including selective disclosure of government information, government officials and financial conflicts of interest, and the relationship between fiduciary principles and insider trading.
Professor Nagy's publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the intersection of corporate governance, securities regulation, and ethical conduct by public officials. Her recent work has expanded into areas including ESG disclosure, climate change considerations in securities regulation, and the application of the "major questions doctrine" to SEC enforcement actions. She has also been actively engaged in policy discussions regarding congressional stock trading and insider trading reforms.

Throughout her career, Professor Nagy has been actively involved in professional organizations and policy discussions. She served as an appointed member of the ABA Corporate Laws Committee from 2011-2017 and as a member of the National Adjudicatory Council of FINRA from 2010-2012. She has also held leadership positions with the Association of American Law Schools and served as a vice president and member of the Board of Trustees of the SEC Historical Society from 2008-11.
Before entering academia, Professor Nagy was an associate with Debevoise & Plimpton in Washington, D.C., specializing in securities enforcement and litigation. She earned her J.D. from New York University Law School in 1989, where she served as Articles Editor of the New York University Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. She received her B.A. from Vassar College in 1986, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
